Books and Music:

I'm a constant consumer of books, and with my music background, new music. Below is what I've read and listened to recently:

The Mental ABC's of Pitching: A Handbook for Performance Enhancement

By H.A. Dorman

A good friend who is a pitcher and a pitching coach recommended this to me. It's not surprising how the approaches of this book directly relate to being a trial lawyer, where you have multiple battles to fight and win or lose (hopefully win)...to then regardless of the win or loss, to then focus on the next part of the approach (the next pitch).

This was very much like W. Timothy' Gallwey's The Inner Game of Tennis: The Classic Guide to the Mental Side of Peak Performance, and his other books about the Inner Game I've checked out: The Inner Game of Stress: Outsmart Life's Challenges and Fulfill Your Potential; and The Inner Game of Music...all of these incredible resources and the best of these "focus" books I've been through.

Current books:

Nuclear Verdicts: The Apex - Break the Pattern, by Bob Tyson. ...this one is a slog, as it's the Defense's playbook on how to try and beat civil personal injury plaintiffs...but the best way to understand your opponent is to try and reverse roles with who they are and what they stand for.

Free to Learn: Why Unleashing the Instinct to Play Will Make Our Children Happier, More Self-Reliant, and Better Students for Life, by Peter O. Gray.

Music:

Terri Lyne Carrington and Social Science's Trip the Night Fantastic. First, Carrington is a forward-thinking drummer and musician. Second, she cares deeply about social justice. This album is a powerful expression of that, as expected.

Nate Smith's Kinfolk 2: See the Birds. This was recommended to me by a former drumming student and good friend. This album is diverse and delicious. Smith's drumming is beautiful as always.
